Week 41: 14th April 2025 - 20th April 2025
Here are a few good articles I found this week…
[Article: On How Systems Work]
This is a good read on how corporate vs government systems work. The following two paragraphs are the crux of the article:
[Article: An Ode To The Librarians]
A fun read which shows just how interesting librarians can be!
[Article: On 70-hour Work Weeks vs 40-hour Work Weeks]
TLDR: If you are working for someone else/out of necessity, 40-45 hours per week is a science-based limit. If you work for something you care about, 70-80 hours feels like 40 hours.

A quote to ponder upon:
"The usual story is that people with "good genes" are those with incredible athleticism or remarkable intelligence, but sometimes I wonder if the greatest genetic edge goes to the people with whatever genes encourage the desire to compete, the ability to stay focused, and the enjoyment of practice." (Source)A quote to lift any guilt of quitting a book:
Doris Lessing on how to ruin reading (and how to save it):“There is only one way to read, which is to browse in libraries and bookshops, picking up books that attract you, reading only those, dropping them when they bore you, skipping the parts that drag – and never, never reading anything because you feel you ought, or because it is part of a trend or a movement. Remember that the book which bores you when you are twenty or thirty will open doors for you when you are forty or fifty-and vise versa. Don’t read a book out of its right time for you.” (Source)

I hope you enjoyed this newsletter. Let me know if you have any feedback.
Next week पुन्हा भेटू!
It seems I am the one overenthusiastic old lady writing comment all the time.Never mind.I enjoyed reading articles,'Paid Leave request'is hilarious. Also,'An ode to the Librarians',&'70 hrs.week v/s 40 hrs. week',I liked most. This later issue was much debated on internet &newspapers especially after remark 'how long you can stare at your wife'.
I agree even if u r student or employee, putting extra hours every day,may not equate to higher productivity.May be our brain requires to use diffuse mode to internalise&organise all the input. That is why it is said if you can not solve problem sitting &scratching head for two hours, solution may pop up spontaneously ,if you just leave the desk &go for a walk!'
Important point rightly said here is 'if you are pursuing passion or working passionately, you may not notice long hours spent!'
